Starting Out at Age Two - Ron Brewer Images on Dance Photography in Surprise AZ
What were you doing at age two? Odds are, you weren't taking your first steps toward a career. At that tender young age, Shelby Carr was doing that very thing.
I photographed Shelby this week to create some fine art images of a dancer. Shelby answered my casting call and she fit the shoe perfectly (maybe I should say that she fit the "pointe" shoe perfectly, but I won't). She has been training for seventeen years. Being that she is now 19, she can pretty well say that she has danced though life. All but two years of it, anyway.
I can't even remember being two years old, much less know what I filled my days with back then. I'm pretty sure it was just playing, eating and sleeping. Seems not much has really changed.
Shelby is technically trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, acro, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary dance. Here are a few more images displaying her amazing talent.

Theatrical Head Shots for Actors - Ron Brewer Images in Surprise and Scottsdale AZ
Actor head shots come in two flavors, one being "Theatrical Head Shots".
Theatrical head shots are usually more dramatic and have darker shadows. I recently did a fun session with John McLain, a voiceover actor in the Phoenix Arizona area, to create a set of theatrical head shots. These are a few of the images from the session.
So, just what is a "voiceover" actor? A voiceover actor does the voice that you hear for things like audio books, a narration for a movie, the voice for an animated character, or the voice you hear in commercials on TV. You can find out more about what John does over at his website www.JohnMclainVoiceovers.com. He even has some demos on the web site so you can hear his talent. Check out the audio book demos. It's a fun listen. But, warning, it makes you want to buy the audio book!

These kids are the greatest!
I recently got to photograph some of the students at the Surprise Family Karate studio in Surprise, Arizona. I have to tell you that I had more fun working with these kids and their parents. It's easy to see the kind of character that is being produced in these kids with their involvement in Karate training. Between the character training, self-discipline, and skills these kids are getting, they are the Super Hero Kids from Surprise, Arizona.
I wish I had the space to post every student, but here are a handful of them.

James Roeske is the owner and an instructor at the Surprise Family Karate studio. He is the key to an impressive program being offered by the studio - Karate training for the hearing impaired. James holds a bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies: American Sign Language, so he is in a unique position to provide Karate training to the deaf. Not something you see everyday. And it shows you something of his character, too.
As a family owned business, mom and sister (Ellie and Emily, respectively) are both instructors. Everyone holds a black belt and numerous titles/championships. When you enter the studio you will see a mound of trophies, all of which were earned since November 2011. In fact, Emily is the current Arizona State Champion and a National Champion. You might recognize her as an actor from roles like Disney's Halloweentown 1, 2 and 3.

When creating a Beauty Inspired Portrait for Women you may choose to do your own make-up and hair or use your regular salon. But I highly recommend that you expand your experience with hair and make-up by Kristy Leopard.
Kristy works closely with Ron Brewer Images, using her highly trained skills and Hollywood experience to make you look fabulous. Kristy's Hollywood experience means she knows what it takes to make you look your best WHEN IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. Not just anyone knows how to do that, but Kristy does. What's the Difference Between My Beauty Inspired Portraits and Boudoir Photography?
I have been asked what the difference is between my Beauty Inspired Portraiture for Women and Boudoir Photography, or even Glamour Photography. That's a good question. And here's the answer...
Beauty Inspired Portraiture for Women is not Boudoir Photography. But neither is it Traditional Portraiture.
Boudoir and Glamour Photography were both big in the past. Glamour Photography was particularly big in the 80's and 90's. But they eventually gained a negative connotation because some of it was done in a style that was not tasteful to the the "everyday woman". As a result, the public started associating them with Playboy photographic styles.
Today we are seeing a resurgence of both styles being created in a tasteful manner. You will regularly see the key term "tasteful" on the popular Boudoir Photography web sites today. They have become more attractive to women, but Boudoir Photography still has been estimated to attract only about 3% of women. The reason is that the majority of women are not comfortable being photographed in lingerie (or possibly wearing even less). The "everyday woman" is not interested in being photographed in a Playboy style, but she does want to be photographed in a style that displays her beauty and femininity.
It is these "everyday women" that find themselves comfortable with my Beauty Inspired Portraits for Women. They want more than what traditional portraiture offers, but they just are not comfortable with Boudoir Photography. My Beauty Inspired Portraits for Women fills this gap between traditional portraiture and Boudoir Photography. As I mentioned earlier, this is not Boudoir Photography and neither is it Traditional Portraiture. Boudoir Photography places the focus on the body, while Beauty Inspired Portraiture for Women places the focus on the face (like Traditional Portraiture). Yet Beauty Inspired Portraiture goes beyond Traditional Portraiture, resulting in an image that captures her beauty (like Boudoir Photography). There is a bottom age limit, as you must be at least be a teenager (teens will be photographed in an age appropriate manner and a parent must be present in the session).

Beauty Inspired... Glamour Photography at Ron Brewer Images in Surprise and Scottsdale AZ
My specialty in portraiture is to create Beauty Inspired Portraits for Women.
So just what is a "beauty inspired" portrait? We've all heard of "beauty shoots" for models. A beauty shoot, commercially, has the goal of making images to sell beauty products, that is, make-up. You see them every time you see an ad in a magazine for make-up or on the poster images in every store that sells cosmetics (you've seem them at Macy's and anywhere that sells cosmetics).
What I do in creating Beauty Inspired Portraits for Women is to use many of the techniques employed by the commercial photographers and retouchers. My goal is to create an image (or many images) of a woman that could be found in a magazine ad for beauty products; an image that she makes her feel beautiful and special. The goal is to bring her beauty out and capturing a memory of it.
So is this type of portrait only for those who already look like a model? Absolutely not!
